Child Protection Policy

What we think ...

Ongoing Support believe that any form of child abuse is ‘always’ unacceptable. We believe that the welfare, safety and well-being of all children is of paramount importance, and that respect should be shown for all children’s rights, wishes and feelings.

Ongoing Support think that it is fundamentally important that abuse of a child is not perpetrated or compounded by the adults that we put in contact with children, and in whom the children place their trust. We feel it is therefore important that all staff and volunteers understands the problem of child abuse and their role within Ongoing Support of protecting and supporting children, preventing any possible abuse.

What we will do ...

If an allegation or disclosure is made, or any concerns are raised regarding the safety of a child, we will take action within 24 hours. Dependant on the type of abuse and the immediate welfare of the child in question, it may be necessary for us to take immediate action (this may mean an immediate referral to Social Services).

Ongoing Support have a responsibility to ensure the protection and safety of children, and we will ensure that all staff and volunteers are aware of the existence of child abuse, its causes, signs and symptoms, and what we can all do to prevent child abuse from happening. Through regular training, awareness, good practice and reporting we aim to take child abuse concerns seriously, and to take positive steps to safeguard children at possible risk. We also aim to support all parties involved, including the children, parents, our staff and volunteers, throughout the process of investigating a child protection concern (this also may include co-operation with any subsequent process of investigation).

Ongoing Support have a recruitment process for both staff and volunteers, that ensure specific checks and subsequent regular checks are made, to ensure the protection and safety of children while they are in contact with our organisation, staff and volunteers.
